Mothers Ruin makes a return to the fields of Somerset in July for this years Newt Beer and Music Festival.
After an amazing first year we’re proud to be back with a line up that won’t disappoint, aiming to provide something very different to what is usually seen and heard in these ‘ere parts of Somerset.
Son of the Mighty Mighty J, Reason Sound – a Somerset sound boy with a deeply engrained love for Reggae music and Sound System culture. Playing all walks of Roots, Reggae, Steppas and Dub whilst passing through Dancehall, Ragga and other genres influenced by the above en route. Regularly rolling out with the legendary Babylon Uprising stage at the Glastonbury Festival, Reason in recent years has been the driving force behind the Reason Roadblock carnival truck, also a resident at the infamous festival. Parading around site with a stack of speaker boxes and a bright dance crew in pursuit. We are very excited at Mothers Ruin to bring back this undisputed sound boy for his second year at Newt Beer and Music Festival. Tune in for undiluted sound system music!
Set time: 18:00 – 19:30
A long time friend of those at Mothers Ruin, back again to grace the stage playing his eclectic mix of genres from both live orientated and electronic music. Akrasia knows how to progress and maintain a groove and we cannot wait to have him back.

A crucial member in launching Mothers Ruin and helping it get off its feet for its first year. Giorgio is also known for his heavy involvement with his outfit Out Past Dark who hold dance music events in Bristol, so he is no stranger to the scene and its inner workings.
Giorgio will be back again this year bringing a selection of heavyweight House that will indeed get you off your backside.
Set time: 20:30 – 21:30
This set is one we’re very excited for at Mother’s Ruin. Jamie has been a passionate and aspiring DJ for some time now and having never played out before, we can’t wait to be hosting him for his first debut set (about time too). Jamie is a DJ who we feel has an incredible ear for music spanning from House, UK Garage, Techno, and more, mixed fluently in his own unique style enabling him to bounce from genre to genre.
Set time: 21:30 – 22:30
Sam Binary is a DJ and producer who is fast becoming a staple to Bristol’s thriving Drum & Bass scene. Having produced Drum & Bass for a number of years now he has earned himself releases with labels such as Western Lore, E-motion, Terabyte Records, and Lockdown recordings.
Sam’s sound takes a retrospective look into Drum & Bass from the early era and defining it in his own modern way, producing deep rollers that have been well realised. Not just a producer but also a passionate record collector, expect Sam Binary to come armed with a selection for those that know Drum & Bass inside and out. We can’t wait to have him down for his debut Mothers Ruin set.
Set time: 22:30 – 23:30
We’re very excited to be brining down from Bristol none other than Roy Bar to headline our Friday night for this weekend. Roy Bar is a DJ who has been on the Bristol scene for a number of years now both performing at events and planning them too. Known for playing genres spanning from UK Bass, Breakbeat, House, Jungle Dubstep, Hardcore and more. Whatever it is Roy Bar is playing he mixes tunes with absolute technical flare and effortlessness. We’re very excited to have him down for a special Hardcore set to close out the night on Friday evening and this will for sure be a get up and go rave marathon.
